2015 Native Here Plant Fair October 3 and 4
On Saturday, October 3rd and Sunday, October 4th join East Bay Chapter volunteers, community members, and restorationists at Native Here Nursery for the 10th annual Native Plant Fair. The Fair hours are Saturday 10 am to 3 pm and Sunday noon to 3 pm.
We will be augmenting our normal offerings of over 200 species native to Alameda and Contra Costa Counties with Douglas iris, wild ginger, violets and ferns. Many local bulbs, including Calochortus, will be for sale. This will be your last chance to purchase plants at our 2008 prices, since following the Plant Fair our prices will increase to reflect some of the cost increases we’ve incurred over the past seven years.
In addition to the thousands of plants on offer we will have local artists selling their plant and ecology-themed wares that would be sure to delight any friends and family you’d like a gift for, or you could brighten up a corner of your home that needs some pizzazz.
This year Sunday will be a family fun day with music in our amphitheater and many family-friendly activities such as face painting, native plant coloring, animal masks, and for the adventurous, a treasure hunt around the Nursery.
Our friends at the Regional Parks Botanic Garden in Tilden will also be having their Fall Plant Sale on Saturday, October 3rd from 10 am to 3 pm. Check out their offerings at www.nativeplants.org.
We’re looking forward to seeing you at the 10th Annual Native Plant Fair at Native Here Nursery. It is a great opportunity to put a little wild in your garden!

Plant Fair volunteer opportunities
We celebrate all of you who have volunteered for previous Plant Fairs as well as those who are already signed up for this year. Your work promotes the cultivation of local natives and the introduction of the beauty of our local native flora to new audiences. If you haven’t signed up yet please consider doing so. Volunteers from years past have found it to be a fun, engaging, and educational experience.
Similar to last year, we will have three volunteer shifts available, with positions for all levels of experience. These include two shifts on Saturday the 4th and one shift on Sunday the 5th. For more information, please contact the Plant Fair coordinator, Steve Toby at firstname.lastname@example.org. If you are a plant expert and can fill a shift consulting with customers in one of the nursery sections please also contact Steve Toby.
We also need volunteers now to help us get the Nursery ready in advance of the Fair so that we can give our best to customers. If you would like to join the pre-Fair team you can choose from a number of fun projects: hands-on care such as grooming and trimming plants, physical tasks such as moving plants or sprucing up the grounds, and other tasks like replacing information labels and creating signage. There is always something for everyone to do.
Thank you all for your incredible work. I am thrilled to have joined the team at Native Here Nursery, and I am filled with gratitude to the amazing community that supports Native Here and helps to keep the love of native plants alive.
